Review: Samuel Jones

Situated in a prime location on Exeter’s quayside, Samuel Jones is a ale and smoke house built in an old warehouse. The inside decor is sophisticated, but still maintains that warm and comfortable pub feel. There’s a range of seating from long benches, small candlelit tables and leather sofas by the fireplace. Outside there’s a […]

Review: No. 1 Polsloe Café

With the top quality food, chic décor, and lightening quick service, breakfast at No. 1 felt like a true indulgence. Add to that a value-for-money menu, and you’ve got the city’s best new dining spot. Last week, Emma and I jumped at the chance to experience food at the café given 5* by every TripAdvisor […]

Recipe: Sizzling Valentine’s meal for two

You’re a part of Valentine’s Day — whether you like it or not. You might be a creative romantic who likes to come up with fun Valentine’s Day date alternatives, or maybe you’re a sweet-natured cynic who boycotts the holiday by buying enough chocolate to share with an army of friends. No matter what your romantic situation […]

5 best veggie eats in Exeter

For a vegetarian in Exeter, theres no shortage of places where you can delight your tastebuds. However, some of these are squirrelled away in places you might not think to look, while others are just plain unknown, which is a shame, because some of them are really top-notch. Here are my top places for meat-free […]

What’s for breakfast? Recipe Inspiration

This week I’ve torn myself away from Exeter eateries and been busy online browsing page upon page of breakfast recipes to bring you some of the very best but more unique breakfast options. It’s been a great excuse for procrastinating on Pinterest, but for the sake of your waistlines, set yourself a limit! Seeing all […]

Review: The New Horizon

Cunningly disguised as a “coffee shop” hidden to the side of Pennsylvania Road, The New Horizon is a small cafe serving Arabic and Mediterranean food, and the internet-savvy may be aware that is happens to have great reviews on TripAdvisor – that’s how I got there, anyway. “Owned by a kind old soul with a […]

What’s for breakfast? Take your pick!

There is little I love more than going out for breakfast, much to the disappointment of my boyfriend who would rather sleep the morning away. Luckily for me, when I do manage to persuade him breakfast is worth waking up for, Exeter has a host of quaint, contemporary, up market or all you can eat […]

Can uni grub do the business for the foodie blues?

I t happens all the time. You get home after a hard day’s procrastination, sit down to the Netflix that’s set up over that essay due on Thursday, and then realise that you’re hungrier than a dead pig at a Piers Gaveston social (#satire). Not to worry, right? You’ve got all those student cookbooks you […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
