Rebecca Colyer debates the ever changing ways in which students must socialise due to the impact of COVID-19 The chaotic, sleepless and hungover ‘traditional’ Freshers week has been fully reimagined, as the concept of Fresher’s flu was taken to the extreme. However, after spending months at home, the anticipation, excitement and nerves of moving away […]

How to Survive Freshers’ Flu

Print Comment Editor Kamila Bell gives us her tried-and-tested tips on tackling the fabled Freshers’ Flu I was five weeks into my first year of uni, five weeks of almost consecutive nights out followed by mornings of regret, when I awake one day to discover that my Deliveroo order is not subsiding my banging headache […]

OOD – Figuring out the Freshers’ Fair

I may not have found a grey hair yet – only an oddly yellow one from my disastrous attempt to go ginger – but this year marks my third, and presumably final Freshers’ Fair. Instead of wandering around as hopelessly as a cloud in a June sky, it would have very much helped my first […]

Those post-Freshers blues

Freshers Week; the beginning of a new independent life away from home, or merely the start of yet another academic year. It is exciting, exhausting and jam packed full of super fun things. But what happens when you finally come to a stop; as it starts to dawn on you that you are now a […]

The Ghosts of Freshers Past

Oh Fresher’s Week. The gateway to a year of university life, an opportunity to blow off steam before the hard work begins or, in my case, get horrifically drunk to mask the fact I was shitting myself with nerves and end up not being able to look half of Lafrowda in the eye. In comparison […]

Great Expectations

Arriving at your University Of Choice, which, considering, is probably Exeter (if it was Oxbridge, you’re here now, so let it go) you will probably have ambitions. Let me be the first to say two things: Firstly, welcome! to probably the best university in the world, as those bumper stickers from the 90s still, for […]

Agony Art: freshers’ fears, tips, and tricks

As a fresher myself not that long ago, I know there are probably a few things occupying your mind at the moment: What if it turns out I hate my course? What if my flatmates don’t watch Bake Off??? Will my pet remember my face when I come home? All of the above. If any […]

Cheers, Exeter! An International Experience

Coming to Exeter has been the best and worst decision of my life. Believe me. The University of Exeter. “So where is it in London?” “Is it good?” “Where does it rank in the UK?” – just a few of many weird, yet entertaining questions that my family from back home asked when I broke […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
