Statue of former Chancellor Floella Benjamin to be unveiled on campus

by Jeremy Brown

On Friday 10 February, the University is unveiling a new statue on a small patch of grass between Devonshire House and Queen’s Building. The statue is a head-and-shoulders bust of Baroness Floella Benjamin OBE, who worked as Chancellor of the University of Exeter between 2006 and 2016.

During her decade at the University, Benjamin was well-known for her dedication to graduation events, attending nearly 200. It has been estimated that Benjamin spoke to over 30,000 graduating students over the years.

Workers installed the stone brick base surrounding the structure.

Update: Floella Benjamin attended the unveiling ceremony with her husband at 12.30pm.
