It may be tempting to stay hidden under the fluffy throw blankets during the winter months, especially on frosty mornings. But it is important to not let the winter season hamper our physical wellbeing.
There are multiple ways to stay active during the cold months, particularly in Exeter, so let me outline a few of these:
Fitness clsses at the Russell Seal Fitness Centre (Streatham Campus Sports Park)
Fitness instructors at the Sports Park have a termly schedule that provides a diverse array of classes. From Pilates and Yoga sessions to Attack and Ride sessions. There is a balance of meditation and wellness focused classes and more fast-paced and high energy classes. Either way, you are bound to stay toasty by staying indoors! These sessions are also continuing throughout December, which is ideal if you are staying on campus for the holidays – although it will run on a reduced timetable out of term time!

The Exeter Santa Run
Looking for something more seasonal? Then look no further, as Exeter City Football Club’s City Community Trust is organising their annual closed road festive run in the city centre. There are two running distances available; a 2.5km family run (where there is no age limit), and a 5km run that is recommended for 11 years and over. All abilities are encouraged to take part for the charity event, so whether you are sprinting to the line or would prefer to take a leisurely jog, it doesn’t matter. As long as you lace up your shoes and don your best Santa outfit, you are sure to have a good time out!

Sunset Strides Club
Keeping with the running theme – as this is definitely the trending fitness activity at the moment – Sunset Strides is a new run club ‘by girls for the girls’. This club has been set up by current Exeter students and is in cooperation with the popular café on Old Tiverton Road, The Sunset Society. This cafe is known for its relaxed and chilled vibes – and of course, the excellent smoothies and tasty foods! They organise runs every Wednesday at 9am and Sunday at 10am, which is a great opportunity to reinvigorate your body midweek or get yourself moving before a Sunday reset come the end of the week. Sunset Strides are also having a run ‘cross-over’ with Reclaim the Night, which is a movement against street harassment and gender-based violence.
