The Best Ways to Beat the January Blues

It’s January. Christmas is over, New Year’s Eve is over and quite possibly the worst month of the year has arrived. The weather is bleak, the whole world seems a little grey and you might be feeling a bit blue. No fear – you’re not alone and there’s plenty of small solutions to lift your […]

The Best of Exeter’s Student Blogs

Lauren Jane by Lauren Geall My blog is basically an online expression of my personality – a mix and match of books (stereotypical English student, right?), lifestyle and general ramblings. In 2017, I’m really looking to take my blog further with more varied posts, including fashion and more of my photography. I wish my blog […]

Dealing with homesickness

Flying the nest can bring up all sorts of nostalgic feelings about leaving home. Most students can’t wait to leave home and move on to their next adventure. But, as perfectly explained by How I Met Your Mother, the second your parents leave you in that empty room in a flat full of strangers, you […]

Let’s get down to fitness

Imogen Ellis After naively buying a platinum membership to get access to classes, I was excited to get started on my quest for fitness at the Russell Seal Fitness Centre. I never considered myself a gym newbie – after all, I frequently visited my (tiny) local gym and also took part in classes such as […]

Introducing the Bullet Journal

What on earth is a Bullet Journal? Short answer, it is a journal/timetable/to-do list that you design yourself using only a blank notebook. Described as “the analogue system for the digital age” by the Bullet Journal’s website, it’s surprising that the system’s inventor, Ryder Carroll, is a web and digital product designer. Why are people […]

Fool yourself into fitness

We all seem to have a never-ending to-do list and getting into shape somehow never makes it to the top. But it takes little effort to incorporate fitness into your routine and make it a habit. It is possible to fool your mind, body and conscience, with a few tricks that won’t drastically change your […]

Being a Fresher with an Invisible Illness

For most Exeter students that began their wild week of being a Fresher on September the 12th, being nervous was quite a popular emotion. Being thrown into a flat full of people you have never met before whilst being expected to chug a dirty pint and do 3 shots of vodka every single night can […]

A tan too far?

Given temperamental and often uninspiring weather conditions, it’s no surprise that more and more of us are keen to get that golden-brown, sun-kissed glow. An April report from The Grocer reported that, according to market analysts Kantar Worldpanel, sales of fake tan have increased massively – by 38.8 per cent – to £20.9 million in the […]

Fitness for the Mind

As exam season looms the collective stress levels of all Exeter students soars. What is the best way to cope with this increase in stress? Chocolate would be my first port of call (while watching Friends from the beginning again because now was an ideal time to start that again – procrastination queen here!). Though […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
