Live Review: Inflatable pizza carnage at Lower Than Atlantis gig

‘Carnage’: the word frontman, Mike Duce used to describe Lower Than Atlantis’s Wednesday night show at the Lemon Grove. It was a night of inflatable pizzas, copious crowd surfing and a serious amount of blood from Mosh Pit related injuries. It was a night to shake off those early week blues, and get over the […]

Why pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza

University is a time for self-discovery. You can have new experiences. It’s a time for learning about who you are, what you like, what you dislike. You can stumble home from unit one, having resisted Sidwell Street’s various takeaway offerings, knowing in the back of your mind that the two for one Dominoes code is […]

In defence of pineapple on pizza

I don’t understand many a thing in this crazy, complex world we live in (mainly long division to be honest) but one thing I really don’t understand is why putting pineapple on pizza is such a heinous crime. For one thing, there’s the balance. In putting pineapple on pizza, you too can be in denial […]

ExTunes at the Old Firehouse 18/09/16

It’s the Sunday of Freshers’ Week, and something isn’t quite right. It’s not a raging hangover (surprisingly), nor is it a powerful sense of dread at the thought of lectures tomorrow. Something’s been missing from my life for weeks now – and I just don’t know what. Later that evening, nestled comfortably in a familiar […]

Live Review – ExTunes Live at the Firehouse 25/9/16

As an iconic venue for live music, I entered the Old Firehouse with high expectations for the night’s musical acts. Flaws Above were set to perform a never before seen purely acoustic set, stripping back original songs to their core. The atmosphere was building, and casual pizza-eaters quickly dispersed to leave a small crowd of […]

Crews tackle major fire into the night

Efforts to tackle a major fire, which started early Wednesday afternoon, were expected to continue into the early hours of Thursday morning. The fire started at around 1.45pm on Wednesday in the basement of Richer Sounds on Sidwell Street. Smoke was seen from across the city and people have been evacuated from their homes including some international […]

Review: Base and Barley

B ase and Barley is the latest venture from Exeter’s poshest coffee shop chain, Artigiano. Situated just a stone’s throw away from The Old Firehouse and across from the (in)famous King Billy pub, the restaurant opened its doors last week, offering pundits and foodies alike the chance to sample their Italian sourdough pizzas, craft beer and cocktails. […]
