The Power of Postcards

We’re all too familiar with the touching postcards sent between soldiers and their loved ones, nourished with love and fear. As their only form of communication, postcards held as much depth as the human heart could hold. Romanticised by novels and movies, love letters exchanged in a past age was, and is, the ultimate show […]

Interview with Will Jarvis on ‘Sealed’

A new play produced by Katie Jenkins of Exeter’s own Theatre With Teeth, written and co-directed with Niamh Smith by Will Jarvis, Sealed is an original play that opened to animated reviews in Exeter about seven strangers who find themselves invited to a house under dubious circumstances, knowing nothing of each other or why exactly […]

Paint and pot

Picture the scene: your creative writing deadline is rapidly approaching, you’ve completely run out of ideas, and then the internet tells you that Ernest Hemingway – one of America’s most celebrated writers – once said: “write drunk, edit sober”. In such desperate (hypothetical) circumstances, you’d perhaps be forgiven for thinking that it might just work. […]

Review: 24 Hour Plays

Theatre with Teeth, one of Exeter’s student run theatre companies, have set themselves the bold challenge of writing, directing and performing a play in the space of 24 hours, a feat most would find daunting if not insurmountable. As I take my seat in the M&D Room the excitement and anticipation of the audience is […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
