Winter blues? I hear you. The huddle-by-the-fire, Christmas market, time for giving winter has been replaced with the wet hair, wetter jeans, nothing to wear, ‘don’t make me go out in that torrential rain’ winter, and far too quickly. And as January’s ‘new year, new me’ spirit slowly dies away, we’re all left with the same flat and deflated feeling. But let’s not crumble under this melancholy and get back to romanticising life.
Firstly, accept that you need rest. Know that it’s ok to slow down and stay in. The current film scene is certainly NOT disappointing, so you have options to curate your dream night in. And for the days that are simply write-offs, arrange crafts or a group study session.

Now, make your home time yours. By the new year, it’s so refreshing to strip the house clean of the lingering Christmas decorations, but I always feel a slight sadness at being forced to take down the pretty fairy lights. So why not just…keep them? By night, this small and easy addition to your room is perfect. They offer calm lighting for your evening wind down (protecting your eyes from the blinding glare of a main light!) as well as bringing a little magic to the inside, when it is nothing but misery outside. And my recommendation is Primark’s LED fairy lights – just £2!

Another Primark favourite of mine is their slippers. At this time of year, staying in IS the new going out (because how can you expect me to go anywhere when there is water pouring out of the sky?). So, if we’re spending this much time hibernating, let’s elevate our cosy corner and indulge in the little luxuries. I have been living in my slippers – their fur lining is exactly what I need after a day spent trudging through puddles in soggy shoes. Investing in pretty and comforting loungewear, body care and home goods is perhaps the highest form of self-love. Buy that knit loungewear and stop saving your favourite sweet-smelling shower foam. 2026 is about doing things for you – we’re fighting those January blues, one evening reset at a time.
Having said that, venture out every so often and give yourself something to look forward to! A coffee with friends or a weekend pub trip can get you through the tedious week. But I’ll leave you with my post-Christmas mantra: remember that the days are getting longer and spring is on its way!
