Coffee and cakes at Hyde and Seek (Phoebe Andrews)

Autumn is officially the best time of year to settle down for a coffee with friends, to read a book (and maybe even do some uni work)! We are very lucky to have an abundance of amazing cafes across Exeter, but I think there are three that simply take the cake when it comes to finding somewhere to relax this season.

1.Hyde and Seek.

Located just opposite the RAMM museum, Hyde and Seek is one of Exeter’s most colourful café and lifestyle shops. With celebration cards, trinkets and potential uni house decorations, the store alone is a great place to browse with friends. However, the café is the masterpiece, home to a huge (and delicious) homemade food menu and a drinks menu equipped with homemade syrups. Being in the central area of the city, it is a must on every occasion!

2. Tiny Tasting Room.

This café can be found on Martins Lane, right next to the Cathedral and it is  a hidden gem. For anyone looking for a cosy spot, the ‘Tiny’ sums it up! Up some winding stairs, you’ll find a small amount of seating, perfect for a stop after some shopping. The selection of pastries is immense, along with a wide selection of seasonal drinks (I’d recommend the cinnamon bun latte – incredible).

3. Reed Hall.

For our final café, it’s only natural to have a fan favourite from campus. The architecture alone gives Reed Hall this historical and mysterious presence, which with Halloween fast approaching is very on theme. A bit more hidden from the main lecture and seminar spots, it’s a perfect place to take a break from work (or catch up on it) with student friendly prices. The gardens around the hall add a lovely pop of colour as the summer fades from the trees elsewhere, making Reed Hall seem otherworldly for a university café!
