EUCU cancels strike action during graduation

Following discussions between the University and Exeter UCU branch, the strike action planned for graduation week has been called off.
In a conversation with the President of the EUCU on Friday, Dr Alex Prichard described ongoing discussions with the university in an effort to reach an agreement. On Monday, an email release put out by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor officially announced that the strike has been cancelled.
The strike cancellation also seeks to “address the disruption faced by some of our graduating and progressing students who have missing marks by encouraging those who are currently participating in the Marking and Assessment Boycott (MAB) to re-engage with marking.”
Original plans for the strike ignited due to the “punitive, unfair, disproportionate and unjust deductions policy the university has imposed in response to the Marking and Assessment Boycott.” Dr Prichard explains that the 50% pay reduction for partial performance was one key element for strike action to take place.
Students are pleased with the cancellation as they believe the “awkwardness” and “confusion” that would abound from the action at graduation will be absent.
