Corporations plea for relief

Corporations plea for relief: beyond the “bail”? In the wake of further aid for transport firms , Alina McGregor weighs up government bailouts for private corporations. The reality is that company bailouts give rise to moral hazard. A bailout is financial support to a company or a country facing a potential bankruptcy threat. When fear […]

Uni growth leaves Exeter divided

Rising student numbers are making parts of Exeter “unbalanced” and “unsustainable,” a local residents’ association has warned – yet according to a recent Exeposé survey, many local businesses actually want student numbers to grow. Over 19,000 students are currently enrolled at the University’s Exeter campuses. The figure has grown by 19% over the past five […]

Feminist Friday: Equality in the workplace should be business as usual

With role models such as Hilary Clinton and Sheryl Sandberg, the promising statistic that 26 per cent of women now lead as CEOs of Fortune 500 companies (up from zero in 1995) and the fact many organisations are promoting gender equality in the workplace, it’s easy to assume that workplace equality has been achieved. However, I […]

Regret à Manger

The University of Exeter is a business. This is one of the many things I have learned whilst attending this historic institution. This revelation was fully cemented with the introduction of a Pret à Manger in the space left over when a third of the Market Place was closed. Many would be thrilled at the […]

“If you have skin there, I’ll tattoo it.”

It’s 10:30am on a Friday, at the top of a winding staircase in the heart of the Guildhall and the steady, low buzz of the tattoo gun was ringing around the room. A middle age woman was getting her fourth inking – a dragonfly on the top of her back whilst the other artists were […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
