Album Review: Cardi B- Invasion of Privacy

‘Is she a stripper, a rapper, a singer?’  Cardi B proves she’s proudly all that and more on debut album ‘Invasion of Privacy’. You’d be forgiven for thinking Cardi B’s just appeared on the music scene, it certainly feels that way. With success after success from Bodak Yellow being the first chat topping female rapper […]

Oh Jeremy Corbyn’ – the state of modern politcal music

On May 20th, 2017, in a stadium set to hear performances from the Libertines, Madness, and Little Mix, an unmistakable anthem took on a new meaning. As a 68-year-old, 2-time divorcee from Islington took the stage, a rendition of the White Stripe’s unmistakable ‘7 Nation Army’ echoed through the political epicentre that is Prenton Park Stadium, […]

Music For… A Pick-Me-Up

Johnny Cash – Folsom Prison Blues (Live at Folsom Prison) This might seem like a pun on “pickup”, cause you know, country, am I right? But seriously, I challenge you to listen all the way through Folsom Prison Blues without feeling pretty good about life. Sure, the lyrics are pretty down-and-out, but Cash’s voice is […]

Music For… Term 2

Music sounds a lot better in the right context – try as hard as you like, you can’t listen to Kate Bush at the gym. There’s a track for every place, time and scenario, a track to make you feel better, or worse, to pump you up or calm you the hell down. That’s what this column is about; picking […]

Album Review: Chance The Rapper – Coloring Book

Man, it’s nice to listen to something happy for once. From my perspective, we’ve had too much in the vein of Earl Sweatshirt, Future and Vince Staples putting out self-hatred anthems. Chance the Rapper is one of the few rappers who actually seems to be having fun with music, and Coloring Book is the most […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
