Exeter’s ASK restaurant replaced by new bar On 8 December, Exeter’s former ASK Italian restaurant reopened as No.5, a new restaurant and cocktail lounge. The Grade I listed building, situated on Cathedral Green and dates back to the 16th century, has been taken over by Linda and Charles Horner, the founders of Exeter’s popular gin […]

Review: Comptoir Libanais’ Vegan Feast

In celebration of the new year and Veganuary, Comptoir Libanais invited us to try their new Vegan three course set menu costing £12.95. The Exeter restaurant itself has an incredibly warm atmosphere and the eclectic decor and bright colours are extremely aesthetically pleasing. Throughout the night, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making for […]

Tea on the Green Review

Nestled between Ask Italian and St Martin’s Church in central Exeter, Tea on the Green is a local culinary classic. In the summer months, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea sat outside in the sunshine admiring Exeter’s impressive Cathedral or, if it’s slightly chillier, there is plenty of space inside in the cosy two-floored […]

Restaurant Review – Rabbit

“You’ve never tried fakon before?!” The woman behind the counter is incredulous. I’ve never felt so insecure in my demi-veganism. Luckily, I’ve just ordered something that assures me it’s “probably the best breakfast muffin you’ll eat (today).” A pile-up of burger patty, tofu “egg,” fakon, tomato, fake cheese and red sauce in a soft white […]

It’s a students’ dream when you can order absolutely anything off the menu, entirely for free. We overestimated our stomach capacities when we panic ordered 4 cocktails, 2 mains, […]

Restaurant Review: Las Iguanas

The gently spinning fans, light and airy ambience and sweetly spicy aroma of Las Iguanas only adds to the authenticity of this Latin American restaurant chain. Unlike most of its competitors, Las Iguanas has much more than the standard offer of burritos and fajitas to tempt the palate. The menu is rich in flavour and […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
