The Physics of Santa

Father Christmas, Santa or Coke’s best marketing campaign I think we can all agree does an exceptional job every year of delivering all those goodies to all of those people. But how does he do it? What problems does he face? Is his belly like a bowl full of jelly? Hmmm, well, short of asking […]

It’s a Wonderful (Student) Life

Picture the scene. It’s 1 November and you are walking back to your flat, minding your own business and enjoying the autumn breeze with not a care in the world. You pass an open window, and what do you hear? The screeching tones of ‘Jingle Bell Rock’ drifting through the cracked window. You think to […]

Miracles, January blues and the war on Santa

When mid-January rolls around, most of us finally give up what dwindling dregs of Christmas spirit we’ve clung onto since the New Year hangovers. The 12 days of Christmas have been and gone, you have to take the decorations down, only the absolute worst Quality Streets are left, and work life is back in full swing. […]

Exeter is the UK Christmas Capital… of online shopping

Exeter has been crowned ‘Christmas Capital of the UK’ for online sales, according to online retail giant Amazon. Sales figures show that residents of the Devon city spent more on festive products than anywhere else in the UK this year, knocking Bristol from the top spot. Popular items in the South West shoppers’ online baskets included Christmas […]

Santa or Secret Scrooge? (Gift Guide)

We’ve all been there. You’re given a £10 budget and told to turn a pumpkin into a carriage. Most people, tragically, resort to type. We all know those gifts; the ones that look pretty in a bow, but will ultimately be thrown onto the pile of other pointless crap in our life. This pile includes fingerless gloves, just for the […]

Is Saint Nick bringing us a very merry Christmas?

A large-scale investigation by a leading UK tabloid has revealed that the festive holiday of Christmas is in fact an elaborate scam coordinated by a criminal mastermind. The discovery was made after a fat man dressed in a red coat with white fur trims, a large snowy beard and half-moon spectacles was caught in the […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
