The Lemon Grove on Streatham Campus will host its first ‘LOST Saturdays’ club night since its closure in March 2020.

The venue, also known as the Lemmy and located in Cornwall House, will have a capacity of 1200 for its club nights. The University has reportedly spent £49,162.90 (ex VAT) on preparations for the Lemon Grove’s reopening.

The news was announced on social media; the first event will be on 17 September, the weekend before Freshers’ Week. Tickets for the opening party have already sold out.

In March 2020, the Lemon Grove posted on Facebook that the venue was “sadly now closed for the foreseeable future. Thank you to everyone who has supported us by coming to one of our events. A huge thank you as well to our amazing staff! We will update you when we have news about when we will next be open for service.” Students have been eagerly awaiting the Lemmy’s reopening ever since.

A University spokesperson told Exeposé that “the University has always been committed to reopening the Lemon Grove. The venue provides an important multifunctional space for student societies and on-campus night-time entertainment”.

“During the recent hiatus, the University carried out planned renovation work at the venue to enhance the overall user experience. This includes improving the bar area, installing improved audio-visual equipment, new partition walls and upgrading the CCTV system in operation.”

The 2021-2022 academic year saw increased awareness surrounding spiking incidents in Exeter. When asked how they will ensure student safety, the University spokesperson said that “the Lemon Grove, as with all of our licensed venues, employs standard operating practises to ensure a safe, secure and friendly environment for all users. This includes enhanced safety checks, increased security at events, and the ability for trained staff to test drinks”.
