Role Model at Reading Festival 2026 (Amelie Marah)

As the winter months approach Exeter and your walks up forum hill take place in the dark it is crucial to get some motivation for the more difficult days ahead. One great way to lift any mood is music.

A classic way to start your morning is with the ‘white girl bangers’ genre. Katy Perry’s California Girls blasting in your headphones at 7am is truly a wakeup call that will have anyone strutting to campus. Artists that I feel fit this vibe are Role Model, Brittany Spears, Lady Gaga and more. These artists truly know how to make a dance beat; my personal favourite is Writing’s on the Wall by Role Model.

If you’re looking for less adrenaline in your study sessions I would recommend the genres of pop soul and jazz. Songs like Ain’t no mountain high enough by Marvin Gaye and Cherish the day by Sade are perfect for the relaxed coffee shop vibes.

Finally, if you’re anything like me you love to romanticise everything on Pinterest. The perfect pairing to this is to channel your inner frazzled white woman; artists like Chaka Khan and Olivia Dean will bring the perfect vibes to your chilly walk to campus. I also find folky tracks from artists like Florence and The Machine and Noah Kahan really emphasise the crunch from the leaves underfoot. For a perfect collaboration of these tunes, I have curated a playlist that has a little something for everyone.
