Album Review: Slowdive – Slowdive

Slowdive were the standard-bearers of shoegaze and dream pop. Standing alongside My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive released some of the finest, if not the finest, recorded output of the bands involved in the scene back in the ’90s. 22 years on, they have returned with an entirely worthy addition to their back catalog, and have shown […]

Veni, Vidi, Varsity: EUAFC 1s demolish Swansea 1s in goalfest

A dominant display at St James’ Park saw the EUAFC first team control the game from the off and deservedly come out victorious at 4-2. A minute’s silence before kick-off was signalled by the referee to commemorate Loris Jeanningros; which justifiably became a minute’s applause for the sadly deceased ex-EUAFC goalkeeper. Everyone was on their […]

Review: Stranger Things

Over the last few years it would be fair to say that, in society, the feeling of nostalgia is something that we have grown attached to. Vinyl record sales are at an all time high, ‘vintage’ clothing has become something of a trend, and films and TV shows that hearken back to years gone by […]

Preacher: the best show on TV that you aren’t watching

It has been said time and time again, but I think it is important to re-assert the soundbite that is so often aired by critics and consumers alike; we live in the golden age of television. Less, shall we say, “bankable” shows are increasingly being green-lit by television studios; with the stratospheric success of shows […]

Album Review: Death Grips – Bottomless Pit

Death Grips have captured both my attention and imagination over the last few years. The mystery surrounding the project of MC Ride, Zach Hill and Flatlander has helped to foster a cult-like following (a cult I would probably consider myself a member of). From their no-shows at their own gigs, to their bizarre ‘break-up’ and […]

Late to the Party: Citizen Kane

I am a lover of film. I would not describe my tastes as hugely broad or all-encompassing, but I would like to think that I have a good knowledge of cinema and that I do appreciate much of what the film industry has to offer; from independent cinema and foreign films, all the way to […]

Rogue One teaser trailer released

It’s been a long time coming, but Disney has finally revealed the trailer for this year’s Star Wars spin-off; Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Featuring Oscar-nominated Felicity Jones as the lead, and showcasing plenty of action and explosions, this movie looks set to be an exciting heist-esque spectacle; focusing on a group of rebels setting […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
