Colette – Review

‘I was born in Montigny but I will not die there.’ Colette perfectly captures the desires of its protagonist; the kind of desires which push the story forward, exemplifying its key concern: the forging of a specific and defined female identity. Director Wash Westmoreland, Captain of 2014’s Still Alice, uses Colette as an exploration of […]

The Princess Switch – Review

Am I addicted to Christmas films? Have I watched so many terrible ones that at this point I’ve lost any sense of objectivity with regard to how awful they are – and now think every one of them deserves an Oscar and/or standing ovation? The answer to both of those questions is a resounding YES. […]

Disobedience – Review

Don’t you just hate it when you pop your clogs in the middle of your Derasha? We’ve all been there. Disobedience begins with a death of a Rabbi in the midst of said circumstances, but his daughter Ronit (portrayed by Rachel Weisz) is the locus. All jokes aside, director Sebastián Lelio captures her grief without […]

The Hate U Give – Review

Amandla Stenberg is stunning. As the film’s locus, she moves between two worlds – that of her friends, where her identity seems grounded – quite literally – by her obsession with the latest kicks, music, her friends – and Williamson Prep, where she is forced into a performative ‘whiteness.’ My only critique of the film […]

Review: Mission: Impossible – Fallout

With 2015’s Rogue Nation already under his belt, Christopher McQuarrie brings a laser focus to this sixth film in the franchise as writer, producer, and director of this well-oiled machine, arguably the greatest entry into the franchise to date. Mission: Impossible – Fallout provides the latest, and most compelling piece of evidence that this franchise […]

Review: Your Name

In the wake of Hayao Miyazaki’s retirement – co-founder of Studio Ghibli and the creative mind behind its most successful features – Your Name seems to have come at a perfect time. Adapted from a novel of the same name, Mikoto Shinkai’s story of two teenagers who wake up in the wrong body is a […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
