International cuisine made easy for students

U niversity can be eye-opening in many ways, and one of the biggest concerns when moving out is very close to our hearts, and stomachs – how, and what, you’re going to feed yourself. Regardless of the lies you were told before going to uni, you can’t eat Domino’s every day. Unless you’re a foodie […]

Around the World: New Orleans, A Flavour and Music Odyssey

In the deep south of the USA, on the delta of the Mississippi, lies a city aching to the brim with culture, history, and cuisine. New Orleans is a city that should be on the cards for anyone planning a visit to the States. Unique to anywhere else in the USA, from its beautiful architecture […]

Around the World: Zanzibar

This summer, I was lucky enough to spend a week in Zanzibar, which is just off the coast of Tanzania. An easier question to ask would be what isn’t there to do in Zanzibar; there’s something to appeal to all holiday-goers, from lying on the beach, shopping, water sports as well as cultural, historical and […]

Around the World: Antwerp

It might lose out to its vainer big brother Brussels or its headily romantic little brother Bruges, but I don’t quite understand why. The so-called “City of Diamonds”, Antwerp is so crowded with tourist gems that it’s a wonder Belgium’s second city isn’t as visited as it should be. Take its train station, for example […]

Around the World: Prague

First stop on your list in Prague should be the Old Town district and Jewish quarter, with its gothic astronomical clock, buildings the colours of macaroons, and synagogues – they’re a must see for anyone visiting the city! Art Nouveau has put a definite stamp on Prague, glazing the city with a distinctive magical feeling […]

Around the World: Sensational Seville

Seville, or Sevilla in Spanish, is a small city that leaves a big impression on those who visit this slightly less well-known Andalusian gem. Situated in the heart of Spain’s most southerly region, the city offers an enviable mix of the traditional and the modern. It’s a place where a traveller can effortlessly transform from […]

Around the World: Beautiful Bologna

The lovely city of Bologna in the north of Italy is where I spent the first half of my year abroad, so you’ll have to forgive me for being a little biased in my utter admiration of the place. Bologna is also known as La Rossa, la grassa e la dotta (the red, the fat […]

Around the World: Copenhagen

If you’re a foodie, Copenhagen is certainly worth a visit. Denmark is well known for its famous pastries (which are admittedly excellent); Copenhagen is full of traditional bakeries, packed to the brim with marzipan kringles and warm apple whirls. However, it would be a crime to leave without trying one of the highly popular smørrebrød, […]

Around the world: The other Italy

It is a universally acknowledged truth that Italy is one of the most popular holiday destination in Europe. Who hasn’t dreamt of sliding down Venice canals on a romantic gondola or wandering around Uffizi and catching a glimpse of Florentine Renaissance masterpieces? Raise your hand if you don’t feel the shopaholic shiver whenever someone mentions Milan! […]

Around the World: Switzerland

Switzerland is a multicultural diamond that usually gets noticed for its chocolates and watches rather than its landscapes and people. With a history dating back to 1291, Switzerland offers much diversity; the major cities are urban and cosmopolitan mixed with the prehistoric buildings of the Old Town. When visiting Switzerland, one should bring a light bag, money, a […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
