Sundance 2019 – Late Night – Review

Johnny English Strikes Again – Review

I’ve had a rough month or so at the cinema. Venom, The Predator, The House with a Clock in its Walls, Mile 22. All have ranked up there as some of the worst films I’ve seen in cinemas – but believe it or not, there was one that really stuck out as especially joyless. Trust […]

What’s the hype with Love Actually?

It was with a tremendous surprise to me that, when researching Love Actually, I found that it came out in 2003 to mixed reviews. The now-lauded staple of every true Englisher’s Christmas was not always the cultural sensation that it is now. Regardless, the classic status that has evolved in the decade-and-a-half since the film […]

Weinstein is symptomatic of a larger culture of sexual abuse in Hollywood

The New York Times recently revealed allegations that Harvey Weinstein has been sexually harassing women in Hollywood for decades. The industry is in chaos and many argue that a culture of silence has elicited this abuse. Hollywood is finally assessing the extent of these allegations but many in the industry say that Weinstein is just part […]

Review: Bridget Jones’s Baby

By Vicki Baker It was a twelve year wait to see what Bridget Jones got up to next and honestly, after the author Helen Fielding brutally killed off Mark Darcy in the car crash (pardon the pun) that was ‘Mad About the Boy’, did anyone really care? Thankfully the filmmakers have chosen to disregard this […]

“The philosophy of Tindy? Laughter!”

In his own words, Tindyebwa (Tindy) Agaba has seen “the very depths of hell.” As soon as they emerge from his mouth, the words jar. It feels incongruous to hear such scenes of “misery” and “gloom” evoked by this cheery young man who sits wrapped in a cosy fleece, against the backdrop of his tranquil, […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
