night out

Taking on ‘Dry January’

Ultimately, we drink to socialise. Exeter, for example, has a culture of pre-drinking, going out to Fever, dancing, drinking and letting go. You might even end the night eating Dominoes with friends, sitting on the scratchy carpet of your student halls corridor, crying and laughing. Some of our best memories are made on nights out. […]

The fear of missing out

One of the main driving forces behind the actions of students, aside from alcohol, is the fear of missing out. Not wanting to feel like an outsider to the experiences commonly shared by many university students is a natural worry that I’m confident has, and still does, cross many of our minds. I, for one, […]

10 Things to Beat That Hangover

So we are students, drinking is as natural to us as it is to eat, breathe and sleep. But more often than not, we have that extra VK or shot of something regrettable and we wake up the next morning feeling like we have been run over by a truck and vow ‘never again!’. Well, […]

The DVD Library: Films for a night…out?

Most students think of our library as the place where essays are made and happiness dies. Yet, lurking behind all the academia is the University’s own (free) version of Blockbuster. As it seems that very few know about this, I am going to take you through the variety of films on offer – ranking them as I […]

12 stages of Freshers’ Week (as told by Parks + Rec gifs)

Pre-drinking with the new friends / strangers you’ll be living with for the next year. Going out for the first time totally overdressed. Heels and hills don’t mix. Enjoy the 2 hour walk home. Excessively complimenting people you’ve only just met on a night out. Stumbling into the kitchen at 2pm to compare hangovers with […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
