Can Trump really get away with his melodramatic rhetoric?

As we watch events across the pond begin to unfold, Donald Trump has made yet another allegation that he is being conspired against. In the past couple of hours he has claimed that there have been voting machine problems across the country, with Republican votes apparently being changed to Democrat. In fact, the Utah officials […]

We need to talk about the Dakota Access Pipeline

You probably have seen talk about #NoDAPL making the rounds on social media over the past few months, and rightly so. Festival Fashion 2016: Do’s and Don’ts

IIt’s that time of year again – when festival lineups begin flooding our Facebook feeds, ticket frenzies heat up and the fashion world starts talking about how to make your wellies look chic. For many, festivals are just as much about the fashion as the music – but what’s in this year and what’s out? […]

Review: Eye in the Sky

As I left the cinema following an opening-day screening of Eye in the Sky, the atmosphere of hushed thoughtfulness said it all. Eye in the Sky is masterfully executed, with fantastic performances from the entire cast and powerful cinematography that captures current concerns about modern warfare, surveillance and morality. “This is a film that feels… like an elaborate […]

Down and out in Panama and Iceland

Icelanders don’t mince their words; the Panama Papers scandal has been described as a ‘betrayal’, the Prime Minister as ‘arrogant’ and the country as being in ‘crisis mode.’ Following the discovery of offshore funds connected to Prime Minister Sigmundur Gunnlaugsson, days of national protests led to his stepping down and the government installing a replacement […]

Feminist Friday: Why is nobody talking about Native women?

Trigger warning: violence, sexual assault, suicide For most people, the phrase ‘Native American woman’ conjures up thoughts of Disney’s Pocahontas with the wind in her hair, staring pensively into the distance. Unfortunately, the reality of life for many Native women in the USA and Canada couldn’t be further from this quaint idea, as the hashtag […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
