Brexit Update: Where Are We Now?

Last week was quite possibly one of the most dramatic in the process of Britain leaving Europe so far, with Theresa May’s proposed Brexit Deal rejected by MPs in the biggest defeat a Prime Minister has ever had. The following day, however, May’s government survived a no-confidence vote on the 16th January, demonstrating that although […]

Crisis in Cameroon: A Headline Missed by the Media

The current crisis in Cameroon isn’t one that has made the front pages of many newspapers, being overshadowed by multiple other issues including Brexit, Trump and the ongoing refugee crisis, however this does not make Cameroon any less deserving of our attention, due to 160,000 of its population already having been displaced, with 21,000 fleeing […]

Vegfest UK: reassessing veganism

Veganism is a fast growing trend across the UK, so it’s hardly surprising that vegan-centric festivals have popped up across the country in the last few years, with a particularly prominent one being ‘VegfestUK’, which we recently attended for the day in Bristol. Food stalls filled the arena, with our particularly favourites being ‘Box food’ […]

No Refreshers in 2018

Refreshers’ Week is unlikely to be going ahead this year. This is due to there not being the capacity to carry one out with A&V currently lacking a manager, and therefore there being a lack of staff support, and it not being necessarily financially viable. This was discussed in Wednesday’s Shadow Council. Although Refreshers was […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
