Regeneration

There was something undeniably joyous in hearing Jodie Whittaker, newly regenerated from the wiry frame and broad Scottish accent of Peter Capaldi (Doctor the Twelfth), suddenly exclaim ‘Oh, brilliant!’ in her own thick, West Yorkshire dialect. Aside from giving me pleasant flashbacks to hearing Christopher Eccleston bounding around the TARDIS in years gone by, finally […]

Review: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 begins with a tough act to follow. It’s predecessor broke out in the best way possible. Space opera had been done before, superhero flick had been done before, irreverent comedy had been done before, but the three hadn’t been blended together, and who would have known the final result […]

Review: Doctor Who S10E1/2

Doctor Who is back, and although it may not be back with a bang, it’s not quite with a whimper. With the first two episodes of series 10 – ‘The Pilot’, and ‘Smile’ – now behind us, and latest companion Bill introduced, it’s about time (and relative dimension) for a review. And so, without further […]

6 TV specials to get you through Christmas

So it’s the most wonderful time of the year. People are wearing tacky sweaters, every coffee shop in the entire world is putting peppermint into their food, and it’s reasonably okay to spend the remains of your student loan on decorations and Christmas presents. I do love Christmas, I wasn’t being sarcastic, I actually do […]

The Exe-Terminators: An interview with the Daleks – Part 2

You both graduated from the University of Exeter. Do you have any fond student memories?   Nicholas Pegg: Oh, hundreds. For example, there was the time I first met Barnaby Edwards. I recall he was wearing very silly trousers at the time. But it was the 1980s, so you have to make allowances. Barnaby Edwards: […]

The Exe-terminators: An interview with the Daleks – Part 1

How did you get the job of becoming Daleks on Doctor Who?   Barnaby Edwards: It goes way back into the mists of time. Well no, not quite, but we’ve been Dalek-ing for longer than you might think. It all started for us in 1993, when Doctor Who was marking its 30th anniversary. In fact, […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
