Album Review: Death Grips – Year of the Snitch

Coming hot off of their blistering 2016 record Bottomless Pit, expectations for industrial hip-hop group Death Grips’ sixth album Year of the Snitch were high. From their tech-phobic masterpiece The Money Store, (recorded in 2011 at the height of the Wikileaks scandal) to 2015’s synth-laden trap double EP The Powers that B, the Californian trio have carved out […]

Album Review: Of Mice and Men – Defy

It’s been an interesting year or so for the Southern California metal quartet Of Mice and Men. After founding member and lead vocalist Austin Carlisle exited in December 2016 due to health problems, many thought the band would slowly fall apart without their frontman. But instead, remaining members Valentino Arteaga, Phil Manansala, Alan Ashby and Aaron […]

A Night to Remember: Linkin Park and Friends Celebrate Life in Honor of Chester Bennington

I remember exactly where I was when I found out that Chester Bennington, vocalist in world-famous rock group Linkin Park, had taken his own life. I was at a blink-182 concert at the O2 in London, and in an arena full of excited music fans, it was a strange and heavy atmosphere to be in, […]

Album Review: Rob Zombie – The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser

Let’s cut straight to the chase: this is the best Rob Zombie record since his career-defining debut Hellbilly Deluxe. This album slams just as hard as that 1998 shock-rock classic. In recent years, as his interests have swayed from making music to horror movies (House of 1,000 Corpses, The Devil’s Rejects and his reboot of […]

An interview with Heart of a Coward

You’ve just released your third album Deliverance, how have the crowds responded to it? Carl Ayers: Fucking unreal. We were a bit unsure about what to expect on this tour because we’ve been doing a lot of smaller shows in smaller towns we haven’t been to before, but honestly man, every show has been insane […]

Album Review: Five Finger Death Punch – Got Your Six

Five Finger Death Punch Got Your Six 4.10.15   The following people should not listen to this record, unless they wish to feel offended: pacifists, Christians, intellectuals, anti-Americans, and finally, people who hate rock that’s trying to be fun. And this is exactly why Got Your Six, Five Finger Death Punch’s sixth offering, is a fantastic […]

There’s a Ned Flanders themed metal band called Okilly Dokilly

I never thought there’d be a day when I got to witness the marriage between two of the most important things in my reclusive, nerdy, meme-based humour filled life: heavy metal, and The Simpsons. The news is, friends, that that day has come. Okilly Dokilly are a five piece metal outfit from Phoenix, Arizona. Self-defined […]

Music Lesson 6: Opera Metal

Have you ever come across a genre that makes you sad about human existence? Josh Rotchelle stumbles across symphonic metal (metal opera) in his latest musical quest. [dropcap size=small]H[/dropcap]ave you ever wondered what Tyrion Lannister of Game of Thrones has on his iPod? Me neither, but if I had to guess at the point of a […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
