procrastination

Deadline nightmares

REWIND to my first year – I’m in the Ram. I have 2,000 words to produce in the next few hours, but here I am, pretending otherwise. “First year doesn’t count,” I chant to myself, repeating the mantra in a pathetic attempt to validate my poor judgement. “Start your essay,” my only friend with half a brain recommends. So I do. Pint in […]

Surviving January Exams

December’s arrival gifts us with two complications: the money our wallets allow us to spend on Secret Santa and the questionable morality of January exams. There is no denying that these assessments psych most people out. Is it the concept of New Year beginning whilst simultaneously forcing our brains to recall lectures from the past […]

The prevalence of procrastination

“I’m off to uni, I’ll only have one subject that I actually like, revision will actually be fun, I’ll actually keep on top of all my work! I’ll never be behind again!” At some stage in the application process, we all had that conversation with ourselves, grinning excitedly as we browsed prospectuses; on the fateful […]

Revision Fuel Recipes: Double Chocolate Oreo Brownies

I t’s a universally acknowledged truth that exam season is officially the worst time of year, surrounded by piles of notes as the sun blinds you beaming through your windows. But no fear, double chocolate Oreo brownies are here! Whilst everyone knows that sugary sweets and countless energy drinks are not ideal prep for exam […]

Exe-am Fashion

Fashionistas of Exeter rejoice; exam season is upon us, and this year’s trends promise to be big. Literally. Think dark bags under the eyes, expanding waistlines (eating your feelings? You know you want to…), oversized hoodies, 473ml cans of Red Bull and bags so full of unread books that they could burst at the seams […]

Fitness for the Mind

As exam season looms the collective stress levels of all Exeter students soars. What is the best way to cope with this increase in stress? Chocolate would be my first port of call (while watching Friends from the beginning again because now was an ideal time to start that again – procrastination queen here!). Though […]

Forest App review: procrastination plantation

I don’t often pay for apps. In fact, swiping through my phone, I can’t find a single one which I actually purchased. Maybe it’s because I’m northern. Maybe that’s a bit politically incorrect. So when I impulsively forked out 79p for Forest about a week ago, I almost surprised myself. I wanted to see if this […]

The story of how Tetris ruined my life

We all have our guilty pleasures, or rather embarrassing habits that we wouldn’t share with others, due to the unmanageable fear of being completely ridiculed. For some it might be eating an entire jar of peanut butter before bed, or even listening to the backstreet boys on repeat, but for me, it was Tetris. One […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
