Winter Warmer Recipe: Easy Butternut Squash Pie

As the weather shows no sign of getting any better, and in fact seems to be getting colder like some cruel punishment for starting second term, comfort food rapidly is becoming more appealing than the well-intentioned dieting of January. This easy, comforting, and somehow not too unhealthy recipe is exactly what is needed to get […]

Let’s get avocontrol: Dark chocolate and orange zest cookies

These fragrant and indulgent cookies are tastiest paired with candied chocolate orange dippers. Rather than setting yourself that tricky and unnecessary technical challenge of homemade jaffa cakes, here you can have the same flavour combination packed into a gooey cookie. They will keep in an air tight container for 3 days – so from a […]

Freshers Food: Turkey chilli

So, it’s September. Your family have driven off, abandoning you in the luxury of Holland Hall or in your prisonlike Old Lafrowda cell. The alcohol’s all been drank, your student loan’s gone on takeaways, the work’s piling up and the realisation hits you – it’s time to fend for yourself. By that, I don’t mean […]

Let’s get avocontrol: food in Brexit Britain

Now, I never intended for this column to be ultra-political, I promise it will remain lighthearted. However, I want to discuss the gastronomical repercussions on the UK’s democratic decision to leave the EU. Once Article 50 is triggered, my current student readers will (for the most part) have secured a swanky career, and won’t need to […]

Avocado: 3 delicious recipes

Oh how very ‘Exetah’ of me, avocado? But how about we put aside the stereotypes for a minute and appreciate that they are simply delicious, nutritious and as it turns out, super versatile. So if you are keen to keep the Exeter image going but do not know quite what to do with them, or […]

What’s for breakfast? Christmas ideas

Christmas morning. It’s the one morning of the year that most people will look forward to, and even choose to get up early for. I know – crazy thought – but I hold my hands up, I’m still up at 7am excited to open my stocking and my sisters are never far behind me. Whatever […]

What’s for breakfast? Your drinks guide

So far I’ve explored all things foodie when it comes to breakfast, whether it’s recipe inspiration or a round up of the best Exeter eateries, leaving one early morning essential unnoticed. Breakfast drinks! Whether you like to grab a strong black coffee, nourishing smoothie, or a good old PG tips cuppa, these beverages are all […]

What’s for breakfast? Take out!

Not the leftover pizza kind, though. I’m not talking about putting your Chinese takeaway in the microwave for a few minutes, either. This week it’s all about breakfasts you can take with you on the go. Getting up in the morning isn’t always the nicest feeling. I’m a morning person and even I don’t wake […]

What’s for breakfast? Apple and cinnamon porridge

Mornings have been making a come back in the last few years. Many of us now wake up every day to a little morning inspiration courtesy of bloggers like Madeleine Shaw or Deliciously Ella. Whether it’s a mouth watering picture of porridge containing seemingly impossible ingredients, (bee pollen, anyone?), or a daily quote, lifestyle bloggers […]

With a dash of the Devil

Halloween is the perfect time to try out recipes that you’ve always considered a bit beyond your comfort level, because if you botch them, everyone will assume that your bake’s semi-destroyed aesthetic is totally intentional, and oh-so-seasonal. The bake itself is moderately tricky, but the hairy bit is mostly in the icing, so if you want an […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
