“Sartorial Nonchalance”: An Ode to Pyjamas

Evanna Kappos reviews Alexa Chung’s new sleepwear collection It’s hard not to get a kick out of the Holly Golightly-esque tailoring of the classic cuts in Alexa Chung’s sleepwear line AC Sleep, released recently. One can almost imagine stumbling to the door of a New York apartment in a pistachio soft satin playsuit, with a […]

Sleep

A comfy bed, a weary head; The sheets drip golden lead Into the morning dew, Covering darkness with luscious hue.   The wind in my eyes, soaring through skies, As I spread my wings and fly, My mind a flurry of stars, Sinking deeper and deeper into your arms.   My thoughts they fight and […]

Living the Dream

Exploring the concept of lucid dreaming, and why research into sleep science has culminated in the launch of an app that you could only dream of! Dreams are odd. They can be things of complete and utter joy or frightening nightmares where you just want to wake up. Would our dreams be different if we […]

Do jellyfish sleep?

Sleep remains highly elusive to both scientists and students. Questions, such as ‘why do we sleep?’ and ‘when did sleep first evolve?’ plague sleep scientists in the same way that questions such as ‘when will sleep come next?’ and ‘why is it two days past my bedtime?’ plague the general student population. Until very recently, […]

Delayed sleep phase disorder: the reason why you cannot sleep?

Do you often struggle to make it to your 8.30 lectures because you couldn’t fall asleep until the early hours that morning? It would be difficult to find a student who answers no; we all sacrifice our morning lectures for a fun night out. Some will answer yes, not just due to nights out, but […]

Reading week, and why I will be wasting it.

Reading weeks are pointless, and I love them. As Halloween draws nearer and the days get darker and colder, that long trek to campus is looking increasingly uninviting, so what better than a week’s break from lectures for the sake of ‘consolidating learning and individual research’? I know many people view reading week as a […]

10 Things to Beat That Hangover

So we are students, drinking is as natural to us as it is to eat, breathe and sleep. But more often than not, we have that extra VK or shot of something regrettable and we wake up the next morning feeling like we have been run over by a truck and vow ‘never again!’. Well, […]

Delving into… Student sleeping patterns

It’s 4am. You have spent the last three hours staring blankly at your computer screen trying to throw together some random ideas on some past reading from a distant corner of your brain, in the hope that a completed essay will manage to compile itself in front of you. You also have an 8:30 lecture. The […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
