Black Panther

Green Book – Review

Following its huge festival success and holding five nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards at the end of February, Green Book is proving to be a hit with critics and audiences alike. Peter Farrelly, the director best known for comical releases Dumb and Dumber and There’s Something About Mary, here takes to the drama genre, […]

Ant-Man and the Wasp – Review

2015’s Ant-Man was one of Marvel’s lighter fares, following hot on the heels of the smash hit sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron. Ant-Man was a considerably more fun film, without the usual links to other marvel films – although there were still references to the greater Marvel universe. The sequel plays in very much the […]

A universal approach? A look at cinematic universes

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a decade old this year, and Avengers: Infinity War looks to be the most complete example of the unique storytelling model which Marvel Studios have brought to cinema, bringing together characters, storylines and themes from 18 films into one massive orgy of colourful costumes and special effects. Whether you love […]

Review: Black Panther

Centuries ago, a meteorite struck central Africa; an alien metal made of ‘vibranium’, was perceived to be a spiritual source of power. The influence of this meteorite affected the fauna and flora of the earth, including human nature, its presence causing a series of wars between five African tribes. One day, a warrior ingests a vibranium-affected ‘heart-shaped-herb’, […]

Still unrepresented: the women of Marvel

As a long-time fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I’ve always struggled between denial and frustration when it comes to the lack of major female characters onscreen – denial because, despite the low number of them, the women of the MCU are usually (though by no means always) interesting, well-written characters. Peggy Carter and Pepper […]

Album Review: Black Panther

This is, notably, a proper album, with real effort and thought put into it. The production on individual songs is high-quality, and the stack of popular artists who’ve been roped in are mostly well-used. As master of ceremonies, Kendrick Lamar takes centre stage, appearing constantly across the runtime. You won’t find any of his best […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
