Gents only gestures

Ahh the world of modern dating. A digital nightmare of copy-paste one liners and personal brand curation. Where the person you match on Tinder could become the love of your life or someone you never talk to again after they try to sell you their homemade protein supplements. Where a screenshot of your earnest attempts […]

Saying “I do” to Valentines Day

There are many reasons to dislike Valentines Day. It glorifies being in a relationship over being happy and single, the price of chocolate rises simply because it is heart shaped, and many claim it is a holiday invented by Hallmark to sell more cards and fill that annoying gap between Christmas and Easter. Even for […]

The commercialism of Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day: the holiday plonked in between Christmas and Easter to help us forget that it is cold and grey. Valentine’s Day splits us into two groups. Those of us who are secure in the knowledge that we will be spending the holiday with that special someone, and those of us who aren’t. Loved up […]

Is Valentine’s Day Just a Capitalist Holiday?

As a perpetually single girl, I tend to turn into Bridget Jones come Valentine’s Day. I eat the entire contents of my fridge, drink several glasses of wine, and wait patiently for Colin Firth to knock on my door and declare his undying love. We all take part in this annual pity-fest, but why? I’m […]

Rom-com vs real life

Boy meets girl. Some turn of events means they can’t be together. They overcome these circumstances and get together. The two kiss. They live happily ever after. This is basically the plot of every romantic comedy film ever made. Of course there are the occasional exceptions which mix it up or add something to the […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
