AI Don’t Think So…

Whether it’s adverts for the Amazon Alexa, Sophia the robot tweeting or ‘Black Mirror’ throwing its viewers into a hellscape where personal security robots routinely hunt and kill humans, our society has Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the brain. With its applications seemingly endless, an AI takeover does seem inevitable. However, it has some drawbacks that […]

Professional Controversy

From my first year of college to my second year of university, I have experimented with my hair, going pretty much every colour of the rainbow. I loved being able to express myself in this way, but I was always acutely aware of the fact that there was a time limit on how long I […]

Trends I Hate – Lime Green

Impracticality – 1/5 Unsightliness – 4/5 Suitablility – 2/5 Look, I love a bright neon shade as much as the next girl, but I much prefer it when that neon shade is not assaulting my eyes with how bright it is. Neon green is apparently this season’s go-to shade, and I am not here for […]

Trends I Hate – Super Chunky Trainers

Impracticality – 3/5 Unsightliness – 4/5 Suitablility – 1/5 Look, I’m girl who likes heels. A boost to their height is always welcome, and I’m not much of a stiletto girl either – show me a chunky platform heel and I will show you a shoe I am in love with. However, with fashion, as […]

Trends I Hate – Vinyl Makeup

Impracticality – 5/5 Unsightliness – 3/5 Suitablility – 2/5 So-called ‘vinyl’ makeup hit the runways this year, with models displaying their glossy eyelids, super-sheen cheekbones and high-shine lips, and there have been multiple different beauty articles detailing how exactly one should style these trends. Well, I’m saying it – one should never style these trends. […]

Trends I Hate : Shaggy Faux Fur Coats

Impracticality – 3.5/5 Unsightliness – 2/5 Suitablility – 4/5 Look, I get it. It’s winter, it’s cold, and all you want to do is wrap up nice and warm in a blanket away from the icy winds and freezing rain. However, that is no excuse to parade around in a coat that makes you look […]

Trends I Hate – Barely There Heels

Impracticality – 4/5 Unsightliness – 1/5 Suitablility – 3/5 It’s autumn, so you’d think cosy yet cute, fur-lined booties would be in. You would be wrong. Instead, the fashion powers-that-be have decided in all their holy wisdom that what we really want right now is to be exposing almost our entire feet to the elements, […]

Trends I Hate – Low Rise Jeans

I was having a lovely winter break. Seeing my family, friends, feeling very festive and very much in the spirit of good will to all. I even wondered how on earth I’d come up with a trend to hate, considering my glowy outlook on the world at the moment. Then, what should I find whilst […]

Public Outrage in the Social Media Age

In the internet age, it is easy to quickly generate outrage and righteous anger by simply filming someone and putting it on social media platforms, where it can quickly be shared, and the outrage caused increased as more and more people join the conversation about the injustice they are witnessing. Increasingly, part of this justice […]

Degrees and disabilities

Only when coming to university did I discover I had a learning disability – no thanks to any seminar leaders or professors, but thanks to one of my best friends who has the same learning disability as I do, who recognised himself in me and urged me to seek a diagnosis. It affects a whole […]

As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell As editors of student newspapers at all 24 Russell Group universities, we stand united against the Russell Group statement which declared ‘no detriment’ or ‘safety net’ policies not to be ‘appropriate’ or ‘necessary’ for students at this time.

Having listened to students at our universities, we are calling on the Russell Group to act compassionately and empathetically and to reconsider their stance on ‘no detriment’ politics for assessments this year.

Students deserve to be listened to.
